Now that we have talked about leaders needing an unconditional and shared community worldview and supporting values that are organizationally supported, I want to describe what I do with those leadership practice and development insights. I will review briefly where in the organization successful implementation is most important, because that is where they have the most operational impact on organizational performance. It all culminates in a value-based cultural road-map and strategy to evaluate existing organizational cultures against.

To emphasize the importance of the worldview values, let me say that nothing is more important to effective leadership development and practice than the worldview values. Without shared unconditional values, it will be hard to address virtually every operational challenge you can face. Learning about leadership without first focusing intensely on the community relationship and leadership values will produce very limited results.

Technical and procedural applications are essential to ultimate organizational performance, but without the community worldview values driving the leadership process, the level of organizational performance will be limited. I had a Chinese student, who had just completed a technically-oriented graduate degree in business administration, tell me he learned more about effective leadership with a week’s active participation in a value-based leadership program.

Applying the community worldview values is very hard and takes a life-time to learn for the most qualified leader. Being selfless is the most challenging part of being a good leader. That means that an organization committed to excellence in the most critical practice area will need an ongoing commitment to improved relationship and leadership influence training for all leaders and employees.
